What is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, neuroscience-based approach that combines solution-focused psychotherapy with hypnosis to support positive, lasting change. Rather than focusing on problems, it helps you move forward by building on your strengths and taking small, manageable steps towards the future you want.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention that we all experience in everyday life, such as when becoming absorbed in a book or film, or simply daydreaming. Many clients find sessions calming, enjoyable and uplifting, and often leave feeling more relaxed and positive.
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No. You remain aware of what is being said and in control throughout the session. You cannot be made to do anything against your wishes. Hypnotherapy is not about mind control and is very different from stage hypnosis. In Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy, hypnosis is simply used to help you relax and become more receptive to positive suggestions.
Will I remember what happens during hypnosis?
Yes. Most people remain aware of what is being said throughout hypnosis and remember the session afterwards. Some people find their mind drifts, much like when daydreaming, but you remain aware, in control and able to bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time.
Can everyone be hypnotised?
Most people can experience hypnosis, as trance is a very natural state that we move in and out of throughout everyday life.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people attend between 8–12 sessions, although this can vary depending on the individual and the reasons for attending therapy. Some issues, such as simple phobias, may require fewer sessions, while others can take longer. We can discuss this further during the free Initial Consultation.
Can hypnotherapy sessions be held online?
Yes. Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy can be highly effective online and many clients find they relax very well in their own environment. All that is needed is a reliable internet connection and a quiet, comfortable space where you are unlikely to be disturbed.
Do you work with children and teenagers?
Yes. Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy works very well with children and teenagers, and sessions are adapted according to the young person’s age and needs. Therapy may help with issues such as anxiety, confidence, sleep difficulties, exam stress and worries around school or friendships. Parents and carers are often involved in supporting positive change and helping to create a calmer and more positive environment at home.
What happens during a typical session?
Each session lasts between 50–60 minutes and follows a structured, solution-focused approach.
We begin by looking at what’s been good since your last session and recognising the progress you’ve made. We’ll then focus on your goals and the positive changes you’d like to see, helping you build on your strengths and resources.
The second part of the session involves hypnosis. This natural state of focused relaxation helps calm the mind and reinforce positive change. Many clients find this part of the session deeply relaxing and enjoyable.
Is everything I tell you confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed during your sessions is treated in confidence and handled in accordance with professional and ethical guidelines.
There are some rare exceptions where confidentiality may need to be broken, such as if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, safeguarding concerns, or where required by law.
